In 2008 SAPDO players were invited to partake in the first professional dart tri-nations between South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Invitations were forwarded from the Dart Players Australia (DPA) inviting the top players in South Africa. The DPA being aware that financial assistance was required showed their support for developing darts in South Africa and giving our players exposure by sponsoring the players trip to Australia.
Representing South Africa was Charles Losper, Waleed Clayton, Wynand Havenga and Ruan Hanekom. The tournament was palyed in Shoalhaven, Australia. Paul "The Asset" Nicholson represented Australia and the DPA in the Tri-Nationas.
South Africa can be proud of the team sent down under. Charles Losper lost in one of the finals to Ronnie Baxter. Waleed beat Charles in another event to narrowly loose out in the quarters.
South Africa won the silver medal in the Tri-Nations with Australia taking gold and New Zealand bronze. What a superb achievement for the first South Africans to travel abroad representing South African Professionals in the sport of darts. This achievement would later lead to more opportunities for South African professional dart players and SAPDO.
