PDC SA Masters

PDC SA Masters

The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) made their arrival in South Africa in 2006. The entire SA darting community was excited that we now have the opportunity to see the world's best players in action on our home soil. The closest we got to our heroes were watching dvd's of previous tournaments. The growth of the internet and connection speeds later enabled South Africans to view the sport live.

The first year Phil "The Power" Taylor dazzled the crowd and players with his superman abilities on the dartboard. One of his exhibition displays was covering the dartboard with an A4 sheet of paper then throwning numbers nominated by the crowd. Taylor was majestic in his skill that left the audience speechless. The players took notes and today we have many that are aiming to reach and achieve our darting dreams.

The top South African would be given an opportunity to represent South Africa's professional players in the PDC World Championships. Charles Losper won the tournament for two consecutive years and represented South African professionals in the UK in 2007 and 2008. Devon Petersen followed by achieving the same feat of two consecutive titles in 2010 and 2011. This year Charl Pietersen took the title for the first time beating multiple champion Charles Losper in the final.

SAPDO envisages a huge future for the sport of professional darts in South Africa and we shall soon see more players take on the big stage in the U.K. Thank you PDC for your committment and support to grow Professional Darts in South Africa.
