Gary Dowman

GARY DOWMAN came out victorious in Monday's Kimberly Classic Final after defeating Graham Filby in a dramatic Final leg at the Flamingo Casino in Kimberly.

Gary started his run to his first ever Major National Tournament victory with a 6-5 win over Corne Robbeson in the last 16. He then edged passed Victor Smidt 6-4 in the Quarter Final before beating former SA Master Champion Charl Pietersen 7-6 in the Semi-Final.

Charl was looking comfortable for the victory leading 6-3, but Gary staged a remarkable comeback winning the next 4 legs to book his place in his first ever Final.

The final was a see-saw contest against three times National Competition Champion Graham Filby. Both players took their aways until leg 11 when Graham capitalised on missed double opportunities and took the lead 6-5, however Gary broke back in the 14th leg to square off the tie 7-7. The deciding leg saw Graham missed double 18 for victory, but Gary took his chance at double 20 to clinch Victory.

Graham booked his place in the final, with a comfortable 6-1 win over Hugo Dysel in the last 16, and then saw off Warrick Scheffer 6-3 in the Quater Final, before beating current South African Masters Champion Devon Petersen 7-3 in the Semi-Final.
